Dallas County
Pottery
Robin
Rogers has been legally blind for nearly twenty-five years. Always the
crafter, she found that the process of making pottery was a satisfying way to
continue to express her creativity even though her eyesight had failed
her. Over the years, Robin has taken numerous pottery classes and workshops,
which have only enhanced the natural talent of her hands. Her sense of
touch has become the key behind the concentrated work of each of her pieces.
Robin
works in two studios with her husband and a friend aiding in the rapid firing
process called Raku. Freshly fired pots are placed in a container along
with combustible materials so that the ensuing flames create oxygenation,
leaving unique designs in variations of Robin’s favorite copper glaze.
Robin
also creates angels using local terra cotta clay and purchased white
clay. The components of the angels are both wheel thrown and slab
pieces. She again uses her fine sense of touch to create the details that
are uniquely her own.
Robin’s pottery is also available at Mandy Bagwell’s Gallery,
Montgomery, and at home shows.
