Painting

Wendy Slaton began her creative career early in life. As a young child, she drove her mother to distraction when Wendy scavenged through the trash to retrieve objects that she turned into collages. Trying to divert her creativity, Wendy’s mother plied her with crayons and paper, providing an outlet that continues today. Wendy has a BA and a MFA from the Meadow School of Fine Arts at Southern Methodist University. She has also worked extensively with photography and print making.

Wendy creates her art in a barn that serves as her studio. She is currently interested in interiors and the people and the animals that live in those interiors. She finds that her paintings are becoming more abstract, allowing her to become loose in her technique. Wendy uses color to import emotional warmth that reflects the subject matter. Her use of black and white as principal colors could be a reflection of her photography background.

Wendy’s art is also available at Stonehenge Gallery in Montgomery and Rattle & Gourd in Loachapoka.
