Wilcox County
Flower Pins
When she went
to purchase a flower pin in another city and checked the price, Ruby knew that
she could make these attractive creations and pass on the savings to her
customers. From that conservative shopping venture about four years ago, a new
artistic endeavor was realized.
The materials
that Ruby uses for her flower pins can be found in many places. She often
purchases supplies from craft stores and large retailers, such as Old Time
Pottery. These flower pins can take anywhere from thirty minutes to one hour to
create, including working time and time for the glue to dry.
Ruby remarks,
“I enjoy art and all the beautiful around us that is sometimes taken for
granted.” She has painted with oils, acrylics, and other mediums – but mostly
in oils – since 1977.
Her oil
paintings have been exhibited at the Veteran’s Administration
Hospital, where some were purchased,
and at the Governor’s Mansion in Montgomery
during the Fob James era. Her flower pens are available in Thomaston, Alabama,
at Mama Nems Pepper Jelly Store and at Black Belt Treasures.
