DeAnn McGilberry tells the story of a
family beach vacation that brought about the beginning of a new direction in
her life. She had just purchased a dress but was having trouble finding “a
funky long necklace” to wear. Her son
said “let’s just make one” and the idea of Lilly
Beck Originals was formed.
According to DeAnn, she “started in the
jewelry business almost twenty years ago but had not ventured out to make
pieces myself.” Her creations at that
time were for friends, family and herself, but grew to being available for sale
locally in a few stores and at home shows.
The home grown business has flourished and now has its own web site.
Most of DeAnn’s necklaces, earrings and
bracelets are one-of-a-kind pieces made with one type of stone or a combination
of stones with Sterling silver findings. Her “palette” is composed of stones
that include: Swarovski crystals, Amethyst, freshwater pearls, black onyx,
candy jade, millifiori glass, shells, wood, turquoise, citrine, glass and other
natural stones.
Besides
having her work included in the Black Belt Treasures Gallery, DeAnn’s jewelry
collection can be seen at www.lillybeckoriginals.com
