Brenda Martin

Marengo County

Fiber Arts

Brenda’s material comes from stores and neighbor’s yards! She creates corn shuck dolls and pine needle baskets while watching TV in the evenings. Her dolls are made while watching two hours of “programming”, and baskets are created in about four hours. Her dolls were first created from information in a children’s magazine “The Children’s Friend”.Her basket making skill was taught by a dear friend.

Although she says she has not had any special training, there is talent in her family as her mother created quilts and her sister is an artist. Brenda had been making dolls for thirty-five years and baskets for five years when she brought her work to BBTCAC.

Brenda proudly shares her talent by teaching her grandchildren and church groups in Marengo County.
