A native of Greenville, Alabama, Janis Odom currently teaches art for elementary students and adults, and has enjoyed teaching children for thirty years. She studied art and interior design at the University of Alabama and was a licensed Interior Designer in San Francisco. While living and working in San Francisco and East Bay Valley for seven years, Janis continued her studies in watercolor and oils under two well-known California Impressionistic artists. She also studied portrait painting for twelve years with Montgomery’s Donnave Lindsey.

Special awards and recognition has been received by Janis for her Impressionistic paintings and portraits, and for her color concept. Her paintings have been displayed in numerous banks; the University of California-Berkley; Troy University; and many corporate offices and privates homes.

During her stay in California, Janis worked as an apprentice in a custom-framing art gallery which led, upon her return to Greenville, to her opening of Limited Edition Art, Etc., an art gallery and custom-framing business.

Art organizations have played a large role in Janis’ life with memberships in The Pleasanton California Arts Council; The Livermore Valley (CA) Arts Guild; The Montgomery Art Guild; SAC’s Gallery; The Greenville Arts Council; and the Fine Arts League of Greenville.

Janis is currently living in “Ellafair”, the ancestral home that she bought from her grandparents which was built in 1898. Janis grew up on the 160 acre farm and is continuing the restoration of the home. Her life in the country is spent painting subjects in watercolor, oils and acrylics. Her subjects around the farm include: the State Historic Landmark Oak tree; her three houses and six dogs.
