Wood Craft

“My Dad was a Baptist Preacher by vocation, but to supplement his income, he worked as a cabinet maker, so I was influenced by him.”Ed’s work is done almost entirely using a scroll saw, with rough, locally sawn wood. Exotic woods that he needs for some pieces are ordered directly from suppliers. Depending on the intricacy of the piece that Ed is working on, completion takes from ½ to 2-½hours each per project.

Besides Ed’s woodworking, he also admits to doing large counted cross-stitch pieces. Since Ed has a Masters of Church Music degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, as well as an academic major in musical composition, he considers song writing as another one of his “hobbies”. His First Baptist Church Choir in Demopolis performs many of his musical compositions. Many of his choral pieces have been published.

Ed states that the most rewarding and enjoyable aspect of his life is “being able, and having the opportunity to create, whether in woodworking, cross stitching, or music writing”.
