Sumter County
Woodwork
According to
Alice, she is
an entrepreneur at heart as she is always trying something new. She owns a deer
processing plant, a smokehouse, a promotional products company, and now, an old
wood creations business.
Because Alice lives in the Black
Belt, and follows current trends in decorating, she became aware of the
potential for multiple uses of old barns and deteriorating sheds.” It’s such a
loss to let the beautiful wood not be saved and made into lasting furniture and
fixtures” she said.
Depending on
the availability of barn wood for frames, they are always different. Some are
created as wall hangings, some as framed mirrors. She incorporates tools,
knobs, vases, hangers, deer antlers and rusted barbed wire onto the frames.
Although she
has no special training she feels that one should “just chase your dreams,
don’t follow them. Do what makes you happy”. For her, the most rewarding aspect
of her woodworking is “…preserving the past and saving pieces of people’s memories
into lasting pieces of art…”
