Monroe County
Painting,
Sculpture and Mixed Media
Shernita has been creating art as long as she can remember – at
least since age five. Her kindergarten teacher recognized her creative
side and told her it was a special gift. Her creative side has been
flourishing for over twenty years as she has been commissioned to paint murals
by businesses and schools, creates sculpture in a variety of mediums, paints in
watercolor, does pencil drawings, as well as designing clothes and graphic
design work.
One of the most rewarding aspects of her work is teaching others,
especially children, how “to tap into their creative nature” while using
different mediums of expression. She has a B.S. in Arts Education from
Auburn University of Montgomery. As an arts specialist, she is able to
teach at various workshops.
Shernita participated in the Super Teaches Program with the
Alabama Humanities Foundation. She currently teaches in the Wilcox County
School System in Camden and is a popular teacher in the After School Art
Classes at Black Belt Treasures.
Shernita is in the process of
creating pieces of art for galleries in Birmingham, Atlanta and Selma.
She has original artwork on display at Black Belt Treasures.
