Jacquelyn’s introduction to creative expression at an early age
was because her father liked to do cartoon drawings and would write notes to
the family with the cartoons. She took art in school but didn’t pursue it
until several years ago which she stated was “rather late in life”. She
has taken group art classes and has participated in four or five local
workshops.
At present, Jacquelyn works in oils but she said she likes to keep
her options open and has worked with watercolors and colored pencils. She said
she enjoys painting with others as she says it is a great source of energy that
fights procrastination and “blocks.” Some simpler paintings may be
completed in a few days whereas a larger or more complex work takes weeks or
even months. If she gets burned out on a piece, she will put it aside to
approach it in the future. She has worked with watercolor and briefly with
colored pencils. “Although I started with drawing, once I began using
color, it was hard to go back.”
Jacquelyn, a Licensed Professional Counselor, lives in Cecil with
her husband and numerous pets. She has a Master’s degree from Auburn
University and worked as a therapist for 38 years before retiring to paint full
time. She relies primarily on workshops with other professional artists
for her continued art education. Jacquelyn said that “the most rewarding and
enjoyable aspect (of her painting experience) is seeing the progress in her
work, and sharing with other artists – working together and best of all –
painting something that creates good feelings.”
Besides showing her paintings at the Black Belt
Treasures Gallery, her work is on display in Montgomery at Ray Boone Jewelers
and in “Artists at Work”, a small studio in Montgomery, where she paints with
five other artists...
