Wood Structures
Davy Autrey is a self-taught carpenter and wood-worker that
creates his art to glorify God. Believing that his abilities come from
his maker, Davy feels that woodworking is therapeutic for the mind, body, and
soul. He is beginning a family tradition by teaching his young son the
fundamentals of woodworking and hopes to include larger furniture pieces in his
collection.
Davy uses mostly heart pine lumber that he has salvaged from old
buildings that he has disassembled. He cuts the boards to size, carefully
incorporating any unique characteristic of the old lumber. Although some
pieces are whitewashed, the integrity of the original wood is still
intact. The universal symbol of Christianity, the cross, is evident on
all of his pieces. And most structures include a Bible verse that shows
the correlation between the use of the piece and God’s promises to his
followers.
Davy’s
works are also available at the Holiday House, Selma and at his home studio.
