Pastels
Roy Barnett always liked to draw and doodle in school. After
becoming a pharmacist, he decided to enhance his natural abilities by enrolling
in adult art education classes at Judson. He had been painting with oils and
acrylics for many years when a friend recently gave him a set of pastels to
try. Roy was immediately drawn to this medium.
Roy finds that, for him, pastels are less messy and less time
consuming than oils and acrylics. He is attracted to the way that paper
holds the pastel colors and the ease in blending that pastels afford him. Much
of his artwork focuses on landscapes that include old buildings and beach
scenes. Roy uses the pastels to showcase his color scenes of spring and
fall colors. A continual learner, Roy practices with and gets help from fellow
artists. He has painted from photographs and publications and is beginning to
dabble in sports related artwork.
