Shirley Feany has been instrumental in getting adults and children
involved in art for countless years. She was helping to set up and organize art
shows as early as high school. Shirley notes, "With the use of line and
color I wish to bring awareness to others of the diverse visual possibilities
that encompass the world around them."
Shirley’s involvement with children in the art world began in the
1970s in California where she was working, along with her husband Dennis, with
elementary students as they painted murals. In the years since then, she has
worked on other murals in Arkansas, Texas, and now in Alabama.
From the mid-eighties until the late-nineties, Shirley worked as a
commercial artist and started a family owned art and sign business in Texas.
She was commissioned to paint original logos, signs, and holiday art along with
her own original art work.
Presently, she owns a business in Union Springs, Alabama, and
continues to share her artistic talents with the community. If you ride by the
Union Springs Courthouse during December, you will see the Christmas yard
decorations, which are Shirley’s creations. When dining at the Hilltop Grill,
you will certainly notice the eight by eight mural, another example of her
talent.
Shirley’s art, which is
showcased at Black Belt Treasures, is on a smaller scale than the murals that
she and her husband are known for creating, but the skill and expertise are
equally evident.
