As Black Belt Treasures Cultural Arts Center enters it's tenth year,
we would like to announce the beginning of an important new chapter
in
the Black Belt Treasures story -
Black Belt Art House.
This space (which will be located in our almost 6,000 square foot warehouse) will be a multi-functional creative space where youth and adults will come
together to learn and share heritage arts skills, grow creative businesses, and
inspire future cultural traditions. It will house studio space, creative
incubator business space, event space, a stage for local theater and music,
exhibition gallery space, and a ceramics studio.
Our first step will be the
Pottery
Station
- which will include a dedicated ceramics classroom
complete with wheels, kilns, glazing area, and more. A Crowdfunding Campaign on IndieGoGo
- CLICK HERE TO VIEW - will help us purchase four more wheels, a kiln,
build classroom tables for clay (covered with canvas), drying racks, and tools.
Following the (hopeful) success of this first campaign, we will add on with
more wheels, a raku kiln, and more. As a
part of this project, we will be working with community members from Gee’s Bend
who are harvesting local clay and learning to produce ceramic wares. This will
create additional products for them to sell in addition to quilts and textiles.
Product development and jobs creation will be a strong part of Black Belt Art House.
Please visit the campaign at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/black-belt-art-house-pottery-station/x/7578810 to watch the video (which we produced
completely ‘in-house’), read more about this project, DONATE, and share with
your family, friends, and colleagues via email or social media.
Thank you all for your continued support and dedication to Black
Belt Treasures.
