Jewelry Design and Creation

“Since there is nothing new under the sun” said Rhys Greene, “I see jewelry on TV, in movies, magazines and catalogs. Then I begin the process of incorporating those ideas into my own custom pieces. I strive for one-of-a-kind statement pieces!”

Usually with a design in mind, she selects the beads by color, size, and shape. “Then I lay out an initial design. I sometimes rearrange the components for several days until it ‘feels’ right to me. I try incorporating different metals and spacers to determine what best complements the overall design. Then I string and complete the jewelry piece. It can take an afternoon or several days. I LOVE the creative process, so I do not try to complete a jewelry piece within a specific time frame.”

Rhys said she worked with glass mosaics for twenty years before fusing small glass pieces for three-dimensional effect in her mosaics. That led to creating fused jewelry pieces for earrings and pendants. She said that “beading and jewelry design was then a natural progression from glass art.”

“The process is the most rewarding aspect of creating for me… I believe that art is subjective! What pleases me may not please you!” Wise words from Rhys Greene.
