Marengo County
Painting
Elaine began her third career after she became a travel companion
with a friend that took lessons in Meridian,
Mississippi. She fell in
love with oil painting during these lessons and decided that would become her
third career. Her other careers involved teaching in Marengo County schools for
seventeen years before becoming the Extension Coordinator with Auburn
University Extension System in Choctaw County.
Elaine’s preferences for vibrant colors, strong contrasts and
“painterly brushstrokes” are indicative of her style. She enjoys painting from
a set-up still life as well as landscapes “and almost anything,” plus she
enjoys a challenge. When Elaine paints she said that “time flies by”.
Painting was never something that Elaine had considered for
herself when she bought art supplies for her daughter, who later became an art
teacher in the Albertville School System. She says that the discovery of her
new found love of painting was most surprising, and she hopes that others enjoy
her work as well.
Elaine’s studio affiliations are: Riverfront Gallery in
Northport; Heidi’s Interiors in Tuscaloosa; The Rural Heritage Center in
Thomaston; and Black Belt Treasures.
