Youth and Adult Art Classes and
workshops are offered throughout the year in a variety of skill levels and mediums. Current and past offerings include wheel-throwing (pottery), acrylic, oil, and watercolor painting, printmaking, basket making, chair
caning, stained glass, mosaic jewelry, quilling, quilting, sewing, jewelry
making, oil, acrylic and watercolor painting, pottery, sculpture, and
more.

ADULT ART CLASSES at Black Belt Treasures Cultural Arts Center:
Beginner to Intermediate Ceramics "Wheel Throwing & Hand-Building"
3 and 6 Week Options
Join us for a Multi-Week Course in ceramics for Beginner to Intermediate Students
Choose your focus:
A | "Pottery" | Learn all the basics: wedging, centering on the wheel, opening and creating simple bowls and mugs, along with basic glazing and firing. Pottery students will also learn hand-building and sculpture techniques.
Pottery is always a six (6) weeks course so that students can learn and perfect throwing techniques - centering, throwing bowls, throwing cylinders, expanding forms, trimming, firing, and decorating. This class will build skills from week to week - so it is very important to attend as much as possible. In the event you must miss one class, it is possible to make it up during another class or Open Studio time.
B | "Hand-Building and Sculpture" | Learn basic and intermediate hand-building and sculptural techniques, from slab building, pinch pots, coil building, extruder art, sculptures, along with basic decorating/glazing.
"Hand-Building students may sign up for a three (3) or six (six) week course, that will build skills from week to week - so it is very important to attend as much as possible. Six weeks students will create advanced and "more" works. In the event you must miss a class, it is possible to make it up during another class or Open Studio time.

ALL | For those with some wheel-throwing and hand-building experience, we will expand on decorating techniques, shapes, and more advanced skills.
All skill levels are welcome, and all students will be given individualized attention.

Instructor: Kristin Law has a degree in Ceramics, Fine Arts, and Art History from the University of Montevallo, and has over 20 years of ceramics teaching experience at the Hermitage Museum & Gardens Visual Arts School in Norfolk, Virginia and through BBTCAC. Kristin is also the Art Programs Director at Black Belt Treasures Cultural Arts Center.

2nd Generation Gee's Bend Quilter - Mary Margaret Pettway - will be teaching Hand Quilting at Black Belt Treasures Cultural Arts Center - upon request. Pre-Registration is Required!!!
Learn the art of hand piecing and quilting from this talented, funny, master quilter in the same style her family and friends have been using for generations. All materials are included in the cost of the class - but students are encouraged to bring material scraps (cotton, denim, and sturdy materials work best) for sharing.
$____ for a 2 hour class, per person ($___ class fee + $___ materials) - A $50 deposit is due at registration.
All materials will be provided.

We typically offer 2 or 4 hour workshops and will supply all or most of the materials. If you have special fabrics that you would like to incorporate into the quilt squares, you are welcome to bring those. Prices are approximately $125 to $150 per person for each block of 2 hours ($125 per person for 4 or more people for 2 hours, $150 per person for 1-3 people for 2 hours) plus + $25 material fee per person. *prices are subject to change
