Henrietta
Blackmon grew up in a family of artistic people. As a young child, she often
painted and saw herself as an adult artist. In college, she took a more
practical path and graduated from Florida
State University
with a degree in elementary education. She went on to teach special education
classes before becoming the mayor of Camden.
When Henrietta decided to enhance her art skills, she took numerous art classes
at Auburn University
in Montgomery.
She also studied with water colorists Paul Tate and Richard Mills.
Henrietta
loves the transparent and light, airy beauty that comes from watercolor paintings.
She uses wet on wet techniques for layering and then moves to wet on dry for
details and more layering effects. Henrietta is drawn to blue, green, aqua, and
pink for her color palette and enjoys the contrasts of light and dark. She
paints her environment, incorporating architectural painting with floral and
woodland scenes. Henrietta plans to move into the looser forms and strokes
associated with abstract watercolor painting.
