Montgomery County
Pottery
Celeste Sabel Haynie is a studio potter in Montgomery, Alabama.
After pursuing a non-art related career, she resumed work in the field of art
in the late 1990’s, concentrating on clay. All of Celeste’s works are original,
one-of-a-kind pieces. She does gas reduction-firing and wood-firing. Her most
recent works are saggar, raku, and horsehair fired.
Celeste has furthered her studies through workshops taught by such
potters as Cynthia Bringle, a master potter working and living in Penland, North
Carolina; Ben Owen III, a reputable ceramic artist from Seagrove, North
Carolina; Linda and Charlie Riggs, master raku firers from Carthage, North
Carolina; and Wally Asselberghs, a Belgium ceramic artist specializing in the
naked raku technique.
Celeste says: “My goal is to make decorative and functional items
of beauty. We all have different ideas about what is beautiful, so when a
person delights in one of my pieces, I am happy.”
