Hand-Forged Copper Jewelry
Elizabeth Taylor comes from a large family of creative people. Throughout childhood, she and her sisters were encouraged to make things out of scrap paper and fabric, recyclable items, and well used art supplies. Although she has never had formal art training, she has been a self-taught teddy bear artist, creating teddy bears and other stuffed animals from her own designs since 1994. In 2015 she started taking classes in metalworking, resin, and beadwork at shows in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Elizabeth works with short cuts of copper electrical wire and copper and silver sheet metal. The metal is heated, then worked with hammers to create shapes and textures. A jeweler’s saw is used to cut individual shapes from the metal sheet and cold connections to are used to fix pieces together. Quality stone, crystal and glass beads are incorporated in the finished works.
Elizabeth creates out of her studio at Flying Basset Farm, the pecan farm she owns with her husband Bill in Forest Home, AL. She often shows her work at festivals and events where they sell their pecans and pecan candies.
