Jackson Knight is a historian, photographer, and author dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of Alabama’s Black Belt region. Through extensive travel and research, he has documented over 1,500 historic churches, capturing their architecture, stories, and locations before they disappear. His growing series of photo books showcases these sacred spaces county by county, offering a unique visual record of rural Southern history. When he’s not on the road, Jackson updates his website, Jackson’s Ramblings, and shares behind-the-scenes insights from the field.
In Jackson Knight's book, Jackson's Ramblings Volume One Rambling The Southland and Beyond, Jackson describes himself with, "I am an officially retired senior citizen. I love photography, flying drones, and history. I am currently working on several projects at this time to document many different aspects of our wonderful beloved Southland, one of which is to get an exhaustive list of standing historic churches preferably built before 1900. Come follow along with me as I travel our beloved Historical Alabama Black Belt. My goal is to document as much of the history as I possibly can. I will write blogs and post them on jacksonsramblings.com and share on my Facebook page Rambling the Alabama Black Belt. It is my hope that these photos and stories stir memories in those that see them and they will pass them and others they know on to the next generation."
