Duncan Black says "Captain Andy Black" spent his life out on the river and has always been considered a little "strange" or "unique" around here. He is thought of as slightly off primarily for his attire and a habit of not liking okra. Somebody asked the mental health lady from Selma who was in town one day if she would evaluate him since he was skating around the courthouse. She began with 'Do any of your family suffer from mental illness?' and Andy replied, 'No, we all seem to enjoy it!' That was the end of the evaluation.''
Duncan Black, a Monroe County artist, made this ceramic "Captain Andy Black" vase and the story along with him. This vase has a very detailed face, with long eyelashes, a big nose, and a cigar in his mouth. This vase is sized at 6.5" wide and 7.5" tall.
