Folk Art

Jacy Gunz is an artist whose creative spirit has been shaped by a lifelong passion for art and a deep connection to the world around her. Her unique approach to art is evident in the materials she uses and the process behind her creations. Jacy sources her materials from all over the world, as well as from the backwoods, finding inspiration in the things she encounters. Her work can take anywhere from a few hours to several weeks to complete, depending on the project. For Jacy, the ideas for her art seem to "just make themselves," reflecting her organic and fluid creative process.
Jacy was immersed in the world of art, starting at the age of three while sitting on her mother's lap as she created her own works. This early exposure to the creative process has shaped her artistic journey, which spans across various mediums. She even began making jewelry for the bingo ladies at an early age, marking the beginning of her artistic career.
Influenced by life and faith, Jacy draws inspiration from the world around her, with her time spent in the Black Belt of Alabama influencing her art, especially in her more recent work, where swamp scenes and trees are prominent.
Jacy emphasizes the importance of learning through experience and the most rewarding part of her creative process is the ability to create work filled with love and beauty. Her work is not confined to Black Belt Treasures; it has been displayed in venues beyond, earning recognition, particularly for her kinetic art. Her passion for sharing her art extends beyond her own creations, as she strives to pass her skills and knowledge to others, continuing the legacy of folk art in her community.
