Jean says she has been sewing for over
fifty years and got started because her “Mother and three sisters were making
some of the clothes they wore. They taught me to sew”. She describes inspiration as “growing up in
the environment within my family.”
Jean’s handmade dolls do not stay in the
BBTCAC Gallery very long as they are favorite items of children, mothers and
grandmothers! Fabric and yarn are her materials that come from fabric stores,
thrift stores, major department stores and yard sales. It takes from one to one
and a half week to finish a doll, depending on its size. Her ideas come from
“magazines, art and craft shows, essentially the world around me stimulates my
imaginations” she says. Her other creations include counted cross stitch items,
wall hangings, pot holders and quilts.
She is a Blue Ribbon winner at the Dallas County
Fair!
