Mike Handley: Plein-Air Writing
If you've ever stumbled upon a man in a tree, or sitting on a log or boulder, hunched over and scribbling madly into a notebook balanced on his thigh, you might've witnessed the writing of this journal. This compilation of stories, anecdotes, photographs and paintings represents the evolution of cursive into font and sketches into art. "Plein-Air Writing" chronicles Mike Handley's travels through Oklahoma's Wichita mountains, Louisiana's Cajun country, roads less traveled in Alabama, and time spent wandering the South African bushveld. The author has penned many thousands of newspaper and magazine stories in his career spanning more than three decades. He also began painting wildlife and rural landscapes in 2001, upon returning from his first of three safaris in South Africa. Most of these 38 tales never made it to the printed page before now.
