Painting
Reasons for
beginning a career in the arts and crafts field are as varied as the artists themselves.
For Louise Smith, her reason was an “empty nest” after her family moved to Fairhope, Alabama,
“where almost everyone is an artist so I took lessons.”
Louise says
she “paints for fun” with her friends at either their hunting camps or her
family’s camp in Monroe
County, or at the beach.
She usually paints with acrylics, sometimes oils, but most of the time on canvas.
Her subject matter runs from portraits of her grandchildren to beach or hunting
scenes.
When not
painting on canvas, Louise recycles boards that she finds under camp houses or
old barns in Monroe
County. She says she is
“slow and paints in spurts” for a few hours, days or longer.
