Lowndes County
Fabric
Purses and Totes
Several
years ago, Doris Thomas had never threaded a sewing needle or a sewing machine.
She was doing volunteer work with the Good
Shepherd Catholic
Center in rural Lowndes County
when she was asked to participate in a handicraft project tailored to help
poverty stricken women. This opened the door for Doris
to use her creative talent while helping to support her family.
Doris’ completely reversible, shoulder strap
purses and totes are accented with colorful African-themed printed fabric. She
obtains material from the Good
Shepherd Center
and completes one project per week.
Along with
her newly acquired skills, Doris said she
enjoys her four children and four grandchildren and being an usher at The Mount
Moriah Baptist Church.
Besides
showing her creations at Black Belt Treasures, Doris
enjoys selling at local craft shows and online at www.alabaga.com.
