Jackie began sewing when she was thirteen
years old and was inspired by her older sister who made her clothes when she
was young. She also worked for a local Wilcox County clothing
designer/manufacturer in the 1980’s. She now maintains a “sewing area” in her
home.
Materials that are used in the construction
of her clothing are obtained from online fabric stores and consist of a variety
of cotton fabrics. Ideas come through the comparison of fabrics designs and
“seeing what goes together”. Most pieces take around an hour for completion.
Jackie’s says she is following a family
tradition of sewing and hopes to pass this on to her granddaughter in the near
future. The most rewarding aspect of sewing is “to see an item go from pieces
to a usable product”.
“I have an Etsy and Facebook page” where
she shares her clothing items with others” says Jackie.
