Miranda’s inspiration for crocheting comes
from other family members living in the Black Belt who also write and sew. She
says that living here influenced her art because “It’s more common here, so
there is more inspiration to do it… and…taking a few yards of yarn and making
something useful” is rewarding.
Miranda has been producing crotched pieces
for almost three years. While admitting that she received basic crochet
training she says “the rest was self-taught”. She tried sculpting and writing
“but crocheting has always been my strong point. Her two young daughters have
been a great inspiration to her. She plans to teach the girls to crochet, and
would like to teach a class sometime in the future.
Her living room is where her work is
produced – “whenever I have the time”.
Her materials are mostly produced using acrylic yarns that take from
four to six hours to finish. Miranda’s two young daughters have been a great
inspiration for her work. She plans to teach the girls to crochet, and would
like to teach a class sometime in the future.
