Staff Spotlight: Meet Samantha Cook

My name is Samantha and I work at Black Belt Treasures as a part-time gallery associate. My time at BBT began at the age of 2 when I would tag along with my mother to work. I started taking art classes at BBT when I was around the age of four. This year I started working as an assistant instructor with kid’s art classes. I’m also currently an artist at Black Belt Treasures, with my ceramics, additionally I draw and paint with watercolors. My current favorite artists are the people I’m closest to, my mom, Kristin Law and my friends/coworkers, Mary Forrest Bell and Tori Dale. My favorite coworker is Vera because she's helpful and understanding. Initially, my greatest personal challenge when working at Black Belt Treasures was talking to people; but since being here I have learned to open up and speak more. In my spare time I listen to music, read, cuddle with my cat and text my best friend. I have one "child", most people presume he’s a cat, but to me Max is more than just a pet. If I could have any superpower it would be teleportation so that I could visit my friend more often. My favorite musical artist is Taylor Swift.

Sadly, I do not think that the surrounding communities are fully aware of Black Belt Treasures and its mission. I believe that through community outreach and growing a larger social media presence, a bigger audience can be obtained. I would love to see Black Belt Treasures expand. I would also love for the organization to host a crochet art class, it is something we haven’t had and I have always been interested in learning.
