Oil on Canvas Portraits

For over twenty years, Johnna Bush has captured the intimate and timeless expressions of the people she paints. These portraits, which are oil on canvas, begin as a photography session and take nearly one month to complete. Although her subjects have been men, women, and family pets, Johnna enjoys painting children and capturing special moments of their childhood.

“I was always drawing as a child,” says Johnna, “and would sketch my classmates who my mother could recognize. She encouraged me.” From this encouragement, Johnna went on to study with many different professional oil painters in countless workshops, as well as teaching herself from any source available.

Having her work that is pleasing to her client and being able to express the beauty that she sees in people is rewarding to Johnna.
